Bandwidth is a synonymous term for data transfer rate and sometimes also referred to as throughput. It is primarily used to measure the quantum of data transferred between two points or nodes in given period of time. The measurement of data transfer rate in interpreted in form of bits per second (bps) or Bytes per second (Bps). In networking and computers this term is associated with network, data, or digital bandwidths.
Bandwidth generally indicates at transfer capacity of connection. The bigger the capacity and lower the interval between stimulation and response, the more is likelihood of a better transfer rate.
